Our Singers

CARMEN ENSLIN

Soprano  Carmen is a qualified and experienced, professional singer and music teacher. She has represented South Africa as soloist in the Kwazulu Natal Youth Choir in Russia and Germany. She has performed extensively with well-known local artists and also took part in the ABSA KKNK in Oudtshoorn, Kalfie Festival in Hermanus and Inniebos Festival in Nelspruit, to name but a few. With er PDO degree, Cum Laude, from the University of Cape Town, her continuous singing lessons and performances, as well as her passion for music, Carmen is a huge asset for Track Five.

KAREN DE GOEDE

1st Alto Obtained a B.Mus. degree from the University of Potchefstroom with voice and piano as instruments. As a student she performed lead roles in operatic productions as well as being a soloist in oratorios. She joined PACT Opera full time as a permanent member of the opera chorus, but after a number of years decided to expand her horizons as a freelance artist. During this time she performed as a soloist and ensemble cast member in musical theatre productions, ventured into cabaret and discovered the joy of jazz. She continues to study voice and maintain her skills by performing in private concerts.

ELIZMA BADENHORST

2nd Alto Elizma has been involved with vocal groups since she was a child – a highlight being part of DF Malan High School’s international award-winning choirs under direction of Danie Smit in the 1990s. She completed her B.Tech Musical Theater Degree at Tshwane University of Technology in 2005. Shortly after her graduation she joined Track Five performing with South Africa’s official Glenn Miller Orchestra under leadership of Jonny Cooper. Her career as theater director took her to Johannesburg for over a decade. While there, she founded the three-part female vocal group, The Dahlings from 2008 – 2013 performing at several theaters and corporate functions across South Africa. She is now very happy to find herself back in Cape Town and back in the seat of second alto of Track Five.

ONGAMA MASIBA

Tenor Born in the beautiful city of Cape Town, and raised on a menu of diverse musical influences, Ongama has found his own musical platform in arranging mixed harmony music. Both his parents are avid church musicians, who often used to take him along to rehearsals – even as a toddler. And to this day, a musical family, they are his biggest supporters. His arrangements have been used in various recorded productions, in particular on the album of Selected Voices, which also showcased his skill as a producer. He is also the primary arranger for the music of The Cape Town Ensemble, of which he is also the co-founder. Masiba Music is Ongama’s vehicle to make his arrangements available for broader enjoyment.

KEATON MANWARING

Bass Singer, is a professional singer and singing teacher. He has been singing in choirs all his life, most notably singing for Cape Town Youth Choir under the leadership of Leon Starker. Since then he has graduated with an Honours, Cum Laude, at Stellenbosch University in singing performance under the direction of Lauren Dasappa. He now frequents stages in Cape Town with the Cape Town Opera chorus, Cape Consort and Cape Soloists Choir. Track Five is honored to have him as their bass singer!

GAVIN FULLARD

Arranger/Composer/Tenor (stand-in) The mastermind behind the group.  With varied choral background, and inspired by the ensemble sounds of the big bands and vocal groups of the forties, Gavin developed a passion for arranging and for jazz vocal groups in particular. During the sixties he worked with vocal groups during a five-year spell of teaching in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. On returning to South Africa he formed his own vocal group, Tangerine, in 1975. After 18 years of radio, television and cabaret work, he disbanded Tangerine and in 1995 formed the new group, Track Five. In-between Gavin also Lectured at UCT College of Music: Jazz Vocal Ensemble during 1997 and 2005 to 2007. Gavin’s ability for jazz arrangements is second to none. You can expect fresh, complex and interesting jazz arrangements that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat wanting more.
